Pelvic fractures are relatively common emergency presentations in felines, often caused by road traffic accidents or falling from a height. The severe trauma that causes pelvic fracture makes other injuries common, and nurses have to contend with abdominal and thoracic trauma alongside potential for urinary tract damage and nerve damage. Once these patients are stable, they are often treated surgically. In this free on-demand webinar, we'll explore how you as a nurse can best support these complicated patients during the perioperative period.
Alison Mann BSc(hons) DipHE CVN DipAVN (small animal) RVN was a referral theatre nurse for 11 years, and brings her extensive experience in perioperative care of surgical patients to this on-demand webinar. She shares positioning techniques and necessary equipment, explores the role of the anaesthetist, theatre nurse and scrub nurse, and discusses post-operative monitoring and nursing care.
You'll learn:
- The approach to triage and and initial stabilisation of the cat with a pelvic fracture
- Treatment options for various types of pelvic fractures, and how that will change your nursing care
- Post-operative monitoring and aftercare, including discharge communications
This recorded webinar is worth one hour of CPD. Don't forget to record it!
